DESCEIPTION

Golden Autumn Odyssey

“There is autumn in Beijing, night in Shanghai, fog in Chongqing, and rain in Guilin.”
This well-known phrase captures the distinctive charm of four of China’s most iconic destinations. This sample itinerary is specially designed for travelers who wish to experience Beijing’s brief yet breathtaking autumn season.

In addition to the famous red leaves of Fragrant Hill, we have carefully included a special route to admire the golden ginkgo trees within the Forbidden City. We have also added a hidden autumn spot beloved by locals. To conclude the journey, you will unwind in a traditional northern Chinese village at the foot of the Great Wall, where Beijing’s most beautiful season unfolds in full splendor.

We are also happy to tailor this itinerary according to your personal interests and travel preferences.

Please note:
This itinerary is available only from October 25 to November 5, when the leaves typically turn shades of gold and crimson. The exact timing may vary slightly from year to year depending on the weather.

Itinerary at a Glance

Here is a suggested itinerary. We are happy to customize the tour based on your interests.

Day 1

Arrival in Beijing

Upon arrival in Beijing, your private guide will greet you at the airport arrivals hall or the exit of the train station. You will then be transferred by private, professionally chauffeured car directly to your hotel, where your guide will assist you with check-in.

Day 2

Imperial Autumn and Heavenly Harmony

Begin your day at the majestic Tian’anmen Square, where the crisp autumn air adds an even greater sense of solemnity and history.

Continue on foot to the Forbidden City. Explore its grand central halls as well as quieter inner courtyards such as Cining Palace and Yanxi Palace, where golden ginkgo leaves blanket the pathways and lend a graceful autumn charm to the palace grounds.

After lunch, your guide and driver will take you to the Temple of Heaven, where emperors once prayed for abundant harvests. You will visit its key highlights, including the Circular Mound Altar, the Echo Wall, and the Imperial Vault of Heaven.

Day 3

Royal Gardens and Mountain Red Leaves

In the morning, visit the Summer Palace and admire the elegance of its royal landscape in autumn. Around Dehe Garden, lotus ponds, arched bridges, and seasonal foliage create especially beautiful scenery.

Later, head to Fragrant Hill and ascend by chair lift for panoramic views over the hillsides painted in vibrant autumn colors. Then walk back down the mountain and enjoy the harmonious blend of nature, gardens, and traditional architecture along the way.

Day 4

Restored Walls, Wild Beauty, and a Mystical Night

Visit the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, widely regarded as one of the best-preserved and most picturesque parts of the Wall. It is also consistently ranked among travelers’ favorite sections on TripAdvisor.

Afterward, take part in an autumn prayer experience at Hongluo Temple, where curling incense smoke and rustling leaves create a peaceful spiritual atmosphere.

Then drive to Gubei Water Town. In the evening, explore the illuminated sections of the Simatai Great Wall, where warm lights cast a magical glow over the ancient stones.

Day 5

Whispering Water Town

Spend a leisurely day in Gubei Water Town, known for its traditional Chinese courtyard-style setting. Early risers may enjoy a quiet morning walk through the town before the crowds arrive, when the atmosphere feels especially calm and authentic. Your guide will be happy to show you several carefully chosen spots that best reflect the town’s classic Chinese character and are perfect for photos.

Later, enjoy one of three optional cultural experiences in Gubei Water Town, each lasting about 45 minutes: tie-dyeing, kite making, or Buddhist scripture tracing. It is a wonderful chance to create a unique souvenir with your own hands.

You will then have free time in the afternoon to continue exploring the town on your own or simply relax in the hot spring.

Day 6

Departure from Beijing

Today you will say goodbye to Beijing. According to your departure schedule, you will be transferred to the airport or train station, where your private guide will assist you with check-in and departure arrangements.
